Fog, Fog, Mist, & Fog

From today's title, you can probably hazard a guess at the weather today.   If you guessed FOG, you'd be right!   This is a picture from Red Bluff Bay, our anchorage for perhaps the next two nights.

I started out this morning with a surprise sales meeting.   This is what happens when you put a Calendly link in your email signature; people will sign themselves up.   No problem, I got this.   Hey, it was a sales call and I'm a sales guy...

Yesterday we were motoring through some areas that were just teeming with life.   While that's pretty cool, it also plugs up the primary sea strainers on the main engine.

So, this morning's chore was to clean them out.  It's a bit tedious, but not difficult to do.   When the boat was designed the sea strainers were located in a reasonable area, so long as they never needed to be serviced...   They are squeezed between the forward bulkhead (think firewall in a car) and the main engine.   And, of course, they are right next to the two alternators and electrical shunts.   When the tops of the strainers are opened up and the baskets removed, they drip saltwater on everything.   Therefore, I cover as much as I can in these attractive blue tarps.

Does this tarp make me look fat?

We motored up Chatham Strait for 44 miles to Red Bluff Bay.  If we could only see it as it is rumored to be stunning, with waterfalls, verdant teeny islands, and some impressive cliffs.  So far, I'll have to take their word for it.

No whales were spotted today.   A large cruise ship passed us fairly closely, but we couldn't see it either.  Fortunately, my radar saw it and reported it within less than 1/2 mile from us.   I guess, I have to take the radar's word for that too.

Here are a few pictures from our entrance into Red Bluff Bay.  The route in is a bit convoluted, but the channel is deep and well charted.

We are anchored about 1/2 way back on this long skinny bay.  We found a nice shallow (35' deep) mud shelf and anchored on that.   Otherwise, we'd have been at the back of the bay with a few other boats.   We prefer the solitude.

Tonight's dinner will be Irish Stew.   Good hearty, stick to your ribs, food.   Yummm, but no wine for me tonight.   Not until Friday.   Other than cutting way back on my wine consumption, this diet hasn't been too bad.

Oíche Mhaith!
